How to Determine if the Y is Closed Due to Inclement Weather

During the Winter months when it is cold and snowy, many people ask how the determination is made to close the Y. They also ask where to look or listen to hear if the Y is closed.

The Southeastern Indiana YMCA has a Snow Emergency Policy which outlines how the decision is made to close the facility due to weather. Click here to view a pdf of that policy.

BUILDING CLOSURE BASICS – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Southeastern Indiana YMCA and YMCA Learning Center will be open for business unless a LEVEL 3 emergency is declared in Ripley County. To view the current, live Indiana State Travel Advisory map, click here.
  • The Executive Director will decide when other factors require the facility to close.
  • Anyone can log in to Nixle to sign up for mobile alerts from the Southeastern Indiana YMCA and YMCA Learning Center. In doing so, you will receive closure alerts via text message. This is the most up-to-the-minute way to keep track of facility closures.
  • Closure or delay information is also posted on the web on this website, www.siymca.org, or can be viewed on the WRBI website by clicking here. WRBI also broadcasts on the radio at FM 103.9.
