Why the Y? Senior Support

Bob Erne For HeraldBob and his wife joined the because they knew it was important to keep exercising for general wellness and weight control. After his wife passed away, Bob discovered while at the Y it helped lessen his loneliness as he visited with friends and made new ones. Bob said “The Y is like being part of a family and the exercising helps keep me in shape for two of my favorite pastimes…bowling and golf.

That’s what these Y seniors do for each other: provide companionship, understanding, and support, day in and day out. When someone has missed a SilverSneaker or water class, or Zumba Gold, there is a fellow Y member calling to check on them. Support at this age means so much and comes so easily for all the seniors who are welcomed into the group.

And not just seniors feel this support: Y staff become sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters. It’s all a big, and mostly happy family!

SilverSneakers and similar programs designed for seniors would not be possible without support from friends like you. By giving to the Y you give these seniors a place to continue growing and thriving, allowing many of them to stay in their homes and remain active in the community.
