Why the Y?

….Because of members like Pam Monnig, who are an inspiration to all by proving that it is never too late to start exercising.  “I was in my 50’s when the daughter of a friend of mine asked her mother to run the last five miles of a marathon with her. We both started running together. I haven’t stopped since.

I remember trying to run from one minute to 2 minutes, and I thought I was going to die. That was over eight years ago. I ran my first mini-marathon in 2008. Now I run 25 miles a week.  I have run three full marathons and lots of mini’s. I have also done four triathlons.  The YMCA coaches helped me achieve this HUGE goal. I was terribly afraid of the water so I took private swimming lessons at the YMCA to overcome my fears. I just try to do something active every single day. My advice to others trying to get started with exercising, is that when you think you can’t do it, just stay with it. Like me…. I thought, ‘I can’t run,’ but you just have to take it one minute at a time. Don’t quit.” – Y member, Pam Monnig.
