Annual Campaign: Scholarships Help a Family in Need

Giana Getz is thankful for the financial support she received to be able to send her son Jace to Kids Club, the before and after school care at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA Learning Center.

“I was needing morning and afternoon care for my kindergartener who was getting ready to start school,” recalls the Batesville resident. “I stopped in at the Y last summer, and the staff up front were all very helpful. They got him in right away.”

“Ever since, my son has been here at the Y, and he loves it! When I come to pick him up, he never wants to leave. He loves his teacher, Ms. Dani.”

As a single parent, Getz was worried about how she was going to do Christmas for her son. “I was really in dire need,” she recalls. But thanks to funds raised from the Y’s Annual Campaign and Build, Learn, Grow scholarships available through Brighter Futures Indiana, she received the help she needed. “I started crying because it was such a blessing to me.”

“I get a discount for my membership for the Y, also,” the Batesville resident reveals.

“It really helps, and I was able to sign my son up for Ninja Kids, and he absolutely loved that. I knew he was having fun.” In addition, “I was able to start going to the gym myself and take time to work on my health.”

Jace will also be participating in the YMCA Summer Camp. “I think he’s really going to love that. The Y does a lot of fun stuff. I’m excited for him.”

Getz emphasizes, “I’m glad that we’re part of the Y community!”
